The Team: Data Technology is a passionate group of data scientists, engineers, and experts who use machine learning and data to enhance the digital product, marketing, and advertising experience across our many brands. We build innovative tools for our newsrooms and ensure the ethical and effective use of data.

Our award-winning initiatives include James, which powers content discovery for Times and Sunday Times subscribers (Best Use of Analytics at the Loyalty Awards, Best Commercial Use of Data, and second place globally at INMA), and INCA, our suite of tools to power workflows and aid decision-making in our newsrooms (Best Technical Innovation at the Drum's Online Media Awards).

Our team works with a modern cloud stack, including GCP and AWS, multiple Python, deep learning, and cloud-based tools and frameworks for machine learning, specialising in natural language processing. We also use React, GraphQL, Node, and D3 for developing APIs, flexible front-end product components, and data visualisation.

Your Role: We are looking for an Analytics Implementation Team Manager to run the team responsible for the design and implementation of digital analytics solutions for News UK media properties including thetimes.co.uk, thesun.co.uk, dreamteamfc.com, sunsavers.co.uk amongst others along with their associated mobile applications.

The properties are built on a diverse set of technologies including traditional HTML websites, one-page HTML applications, native mobile applications as well as off-platform technologies such as Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP)

Reporting to the Principal Data Implementation, this role presents a diverse set of challenges to ensure we effectively deliver quality information to the range of Data Technology products, managing a group of multi-skilled Analytics Implementation specialists.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating with a team Project Manager and Business Administrator to ensure priority tasks are completed, to an acceptable standard - managing five Implementation engineers, 3 UK based and 2 in Bangalore.
  • Technical ownership data provision to key analytics and activation platforms, including GA4, in house endpoints, marketing platforms and more - ensuring our tag management system is implemented correctly across all of News UK's websites and mobile applications
  • Liaising with the wider Technology team and senior stakeholders to ensure that our implementation is performant, fit for purpose, in line with data governance constraints, prioritised to business requirements and all work is effectively communicated.
  • Keep up to date with industry developments and best practise in tag implementation, providing subject matter expertise to the Data Technology team and the business

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience in designing and implementing large, complex digital analytics solutions that span web and mobile apps from start to finish.
  • Team leadership experience, strong organisational ability, ability to converse on a technical level with other engineers, product managers, business analysts etc
  • Experience working within an agile environment
  • Expert level knowledge of and experience using premium tag management tools such as Tealium, Ensighten, Signal
  • Expert level knowledge of configuring Google Analytics Accounts and Properties and their Custom Dimensions and Metrics (or similar package equivalents). Understanding of marketing platform integration
  • Experience in working with consent constraints, CMP tools, and how they need to be applied across a range of use cases
  • Working knowledge of analysing hit level data from web analytics and similar systems, preferably in a SQL environment
  • Working knowledge of data from related systems such as CRM, DMPs, CDP, Ad Servers, Experimentation platforms
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills
