Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent managerial qualification or experience
  • GCSE level grades A-C in Maths and English Language or equivalent

Desirable criteria

  • Administration Certificate in Diabetic Eye Screening or working towards

Knowledge, Training & Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience of managing the administration department in an NHS organisation
  • Knowledge of diabetes and diabetic retinopathy, including the relevance of the National Service Framework for Diabetes for retinal screening
  • Knowledge of the National Diabetic Eye Screening Programme service objectives and quality assurance standards
  • Experience of managing high volumes of work and delivering tight deadlines
  • High level of administrative organisational experience, including the setting up and maintenance of processes and systems, preferably within a screening programme
  • Experience of managing patient administrative systems, and developing and implementing new processes
  • Experience of managing staff, including organising and delegating workloads, recruiting, training
  • Able to demonstrate use of software and systems to manage data, analyse data and produce information
  • Team working
  • Good organisational skills
  • Ability to prioritise team workload
  • Able to work independently adopting a proactive approach to solving administrative and personnel issues

Desirable criteria

  • Previous experience of working within a Diabetic Eye Screening Programme
  • Experience of Optomize and Retinal Screening systems
  • Experience using Lorenzo and Medisoft electronic patient record system
  • Knowledge of diabetic retinopathy screening pathway
  • Knowledge of HES Eye Service pathways

Knowledge, Training & Experience

Essential criteria

  • Able to maintain high levels of concentration and accuracy
  • Able to think logically and laterally to analyse information systems and identify alternative ways of managing patient bookings to meet national and local targets
  • Ability to analyse data and generate reports (e.g. use of excel spreadsheets)
  • Confident to deal with implementing changes to practice within area of responsibility
  • Confident communicator with senior managerial and clinical staff to ensure their participation in changes and developments
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and patients
