Job overview
The Service Manager (SM) for acute and community paediatrics will support the General Manager and Head of Nursing, for Women and Children's Division, in the contribution it will make to the realisation of the Clinical Strategy and future aspirations as the provider of choice for the population of East Sussex
Main duties of the job
The Service Manager for acute and community paediatrics will support the General Manager and Head of Nursing in the development, implementation and maintenance of high quality, safe and sustainable clinical services
The Service Manager will provide leadership under the direction of the General Manager and Head of Nursing for non medical and clinical staff within the CU
Paediatric services are delivered from 3 sites, Acute paediatrics from Conquest and Eastbourne hospitals, community paediatrics (child development service) from Egerton Park View Bexhill ( Child development centre) and Eastbourne Hospital. The SM is required to visit all 3 sites and initially have a higher presence in Bexhill. whilst the service is undergoing transformation.
The SM will ensure administrative systems and processes are effective and efficient ensuring bookings, patient flow, clinic management and theatre utilisation is maximised.
An operational background would be beneficial, with an understanding of NHSE elective care services, paediatric service provision and change management processes.

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Educated to degree level or proven equivalent experience, skills and knowledge
- Recognised postgraduate leadership / management qualification or equivalent training and experience.
- Budget management qualification or equivalent level of knowledge and experience
- Evidence of ongoing relevant CPD to masters equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Professional healthcare qualification, with current registration
- Additional qualifications relevant to CU speciality
- ECDL or an equivalent recognised IT qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- A broad range of in-depth managerial and/or clinical experience at a senior level in NHS or a similar large complex organisation.
- Demonstrates an ability to critically analyse, problem solve and prioritise.
- Experience of effective management of health care related services
- Evidence of service delivery and of holding others to account
- Proven experience of staff management
- Experience of managing budgets.
Desirable criteria
- Relevant experience in a similar role in NHS
- Experience of undertaking service improvement audit
- Project Management
