Accounts Manager
This job is brought to you by Jobs/Redefined, the UK's leading over-50s age inclusive jobs board.
We are TC Group, the fastest-growing top 20 accountancy firm in the UK. As we continue to scale, maintaining technical excellence, consistency, and risk discipline across our client base is critical.
We are therefore seeking a Technical Accounts Manager for our Croydon office. This role sits at the same level as our client-facing Accounts Manager but has a different emphasis: acting as the technical lead, quality control owner, and escalation point for the office.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys complex technical work, reviewing and improving output quality, and supporting colleagues with judgement-heavy decisions, rather than owning a large client-facing portfolio.
You will act as the final technical gatekeeper for accounts and reporting produced by the team, ensuring compliance, consistency, and best practice across the office. While you may retain a small, select client portfolio, your primary focus will be review, risk mitigation, and technical leadership, not relationship management or business development.
You will work closely with Partners and Accounts Managers, providing technical challenge, guidance, and solutions on complex accounting issues, judgements, and edge cases.
Key responsibilities of an Accounts Manager will include:
Acting as the technical escalation point for the office on accounting, reporting, and compliance matters; Reviewing statutory accounts and management accounts to ensure technical accuracy, consistency, and quality; Identifying technical risk areas early and ensuring appropriate documentation and resolution; Supporting Accounts Managers and junior staff with complex judgements and unusual transactions; Owning and improving technical standards, checklists, and review processes; Driving consistency of output across Xero-based portfolios; Supporting training and upskilling of the team from a technical perspective; Working with Partners to mitigate regulatory, reputational, and client risk; Contributing to process improvement and efficiency, with a focus on quality rather than volume.
About you:
We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in an accountancy practice;
- ACA / ACCA qualified (preferred)
- Strong technical accounting knowledge and confidence exercising professional judgement
- High attention to detail with a structured, risk-aware mindset
- Comfortable challenging work constructively and raising issues early
- Strong written communication skills, particularly around technical explanations
- Enjoys supporting others and improving standards rather than owning client relationships
- Experience with Xero and cloud accounting environments
Full benefits available for the Accounts Manager:
- pension scheme
- group life assurance 4 x salary
- profit share bonus
- on-site car parking
- access to our employee benefits portal - cashback and vouchers on everyday purchases
- employee Referral Bonus - we're always looking for talented individuals to join our team
- employee Assistance Programme
- regular training and development - continuous development and support not only for your professional qualifications but also for your personal goals and aspirations
