The Client: Samsung UK

Samsung is one of the world's most loved brands. It was recently number two in the UK beating Coke and John Lewis. Their annual UK media spend is over £150 million across all media channels. Samsung is an extremely fast-paced client and there is a genuine client expectation for brilliant and innovative media thinking. They are a huge dynamic organisation and a leader in the Tech industry, pushing the boundaries and connecting consumers on another level. They like to think of Starcom as a business partner, not just an agency, we have a very close relationship with their internal media and marketing teams. Samsung aren't afraid of making last-minute changes so you have to be adaptable and working at full capacity 100% of the time. They are also a very ambitious client, eager to produce award-winning work and this is evidenced through the 4 shortlists we received recently across a breadth of products and categories for the upcoming Media Week awards.

Responsibilities

What will I be doing?

A Planning Account Manager on the Samsung UK account is an integral part of the team, playing a key role in the planning and implementation of campaigns across a variety of Samsung product divisions. This particular AM role will work on working across Mid-range smartphone, Promos, Services and B2B.

Here's a summary of the role's day-to-day responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with internal specialists, media owners and clients during all steps of the planning process to deliver quality and innovative solutions for Samsung.
  • Be a day-to-day point of contact for the client, responding to all requests with speed and enthusiasm within agreed deadlines, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Act as the day-to-day controller of budgets & plans across a broad portfolio of campaigns with the support of an Account Director
  • Work with the other Account Manager on the team to ensure smooth running of the account, leading on client status calls, preparing for these meetings in a timely manner and taking responsibility for any actions that come out of them.
  • Be a personable and supportive line manager for both Senior and Account Executives.
  • Help to manage and allocate budgets across channels, keeping a diligent view of the financial process too.
  • Deliver a high standard of mid/post-campaign reporting and analysis.
  • Overall, we need you to be highly organised, have strong attention to detail, be comfortable juggling multiple campaigns at the same time and importantly be pushing to deliver work to clients that we as a team can be proud of.

Qualifications

In 6 Months' Time

You'll be fully settled into the role and comfortable with the fast-paced nature of the account, being adaptable to change and having a really strong understanding of the Hearables, Wearables and Domestic Appliance categories. You will have developed your knowledge of Samsung's key products as well as their core competitor sets through supporting the team with quarterly competitor deep dives.

Show a thorough understanding of planning theory across all channels whilst also becoming a super user of key planning tools with clear evidence of this knowledge being passed onto the wider team. Confident in allocating budgets to all media channels and providing rationales for why they should be on the plan, depending on the client's objectives. Presenting this to Samsung and then leading briefing activation teams and pulling together multiple media responses at once as part of the quarterly briefing process, with support from the rest of the planning team and strategy team where relevant.

Lead on implementing campaigns working closely with marketing and creative agencies, driving forward creative fulfilment and delivering a high standard of mid/post-campaign reporting and analysis. Be able to write strong performance insights and observations, analyse test results and provide conclusions with a view on what our recommendation should be going forward.

Think independently and delegate to Senior Exec and Exec where appropriate with a clear brief on tasks and being held responsible for the final output of any work that they produce, taking pride in everything we deliver to clients.
