Our next step in the journey? We're looking for a Head of Engineering.

The Role:

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Fertifa team. We have successfully matured beyond MVP stage and now have v2's of each of our mobile app, website and platform and are looking for someone to manage and execute the development lifecycle to build, deploy and iterate on our products.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the technical development of our proposition, initially by working with our long-standing partner development team (remote) and potentially over time by building a team in-house. Expect to split your time equally at the outset between devising leadership strategy and contributing to the code base as and when necessary. You will report directly to the Executive Director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-day oversight of and responsibility for our software development lifecycle, including strong partnership with our head of product and product lead
  • Work with the team to drive forward and deliver projects on time and with minimal supervision, learning and improving accuracy / speed over time
  • Work closely with a fast-moving software development team
  • Manage the delivery of our product, working closely with our client services delivery and operations team

Experience:

  • At least 5-6 years' experience as an engineering lead or full-stack development lead

Skills & Attributes:

  • Self-starter, with engineering lead (or similar) experience in working at an early-stage (pre-Series A) start-up
  • Experience facilitating communication between "development" and "commercial" teams
  • An assertive, effective, professional communicator and mediator, working with a multi-disciplinary team demonstrating constant "presence" and availability, fast response time and feedback loops, prompt follow-up and collaboration
  • Strong people management skills with interest in and commitment to developing others and building a collaborative team dynamic
  • Ability to work flexibly to cope with the dynamics and potential uncertainties or fast-moving adjustments of a start-up environment
  • Have an interest in supporting the fertility and reproductive healthcare industries

Qualifications & experience:

  • Technical expertise in most of these technologies: TypeScript, React/React Native, NodeJS, Postgres and AWS
  • DevOps best practices
  • Experience working with healthcare or privacy-sensitive data, including an awareness of the principles behind ISO27001 and GDPR also helpful
  • Empathise with those who are trying to conceive, going through the menopause or facing reproductive health issues

  • Competitive salary between £100k - £120k per annum depending on experience
