Responsibilities

The Clinical negligence and personal injury group at Penningtons Manches Cooper is regarded as one of the leading specialist teams in the country. They provide advice in relation to injury or loss suffered as a result of any type of treatment by doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals and operate as specialist advisers especially for serious injury claims - arising from both clinical negligence and personal injury.

We are looking to recruit an associate / senior associate to join our friendly Guildford office. This is a senior role in the team and any candidate needs to have at least 6 years PQE in a tier one clinical negligence team.

The role will require someone who can run their own caseload with minimal supervision and is experienced in assessing, investigating and moving cases forward and taking day to day responsibility for matters. The role will involve working on a range of cases but with the opportunity to build on existing areas of specialism and interest. The candidate must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the need for and ability to work efficiently and of the commercial factors affecting this area of work. Candidates will be expected to already have some experience of successfully contributing to business development activities and to be involved in teamwide business development and taking steps to build their own profile and practice. In addition the ideal candidate will have some experience of supervision and management of more junior fee earners.

Essential & Desirable Criteria

The ideal candidate will have worked in a recognised leading Clinical Negligence team and have the ability to manage a busy workload and competing demands. They will be keen to build on their supervision and management skills and have excellent communication and client care skills. Experience of personal injury work (serious injury) would be an advantage but not essential.

The firm operates a hybrid agile working policy allowing employees to work from home (or another UK location) for at least 50% of their time. Individuals can also apply for other flexible working options either at the time of recruitment or during the course of their employment.

At our firm, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is a priority and at the heart of everything we do. We actively want to attract a diverse workforce and welcome applications from everyone, from all backgrounds. We are committed to promoting an inclusive culture where everyone can be their full selves and experience being seen and heard. You can find out more about our firm's commitment, initiatives and Pennclusion committees here.

We ensure that there are equal opportunities and treatment for all job applicants and employees, at all stages of the recruitment process and employment, regardless of age, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, disability, race (including colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin), religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and social background. We aim to provide adjustments for people who have a disability, long-term health condition (including mental health) or neurodiversity. If you would like to request an adjustment, please contact Emily.Green@penningtonslaw.com
