• North West Route, covering Manchester, Liverpool, Lancashire and Cumbria.

• Central Route, covering the West Midlands and Chiltern areas.

• West Coast South Route, covering the south of Crewe to London Euston.

There is also a Regional Team which supports Regional Major Programmes & Professional services.

Brief Description

To lead the management and continuous improvement of accident and investigations within the Route, in line with best practice and company policy and procedures. Act as the Route lead on accident and incident investigation.

The Vacancy is for Various Locations within West Coast South Route
About the role (External)

Every day will be different, but you can expect to be involved in the following activities:

1. Lead the production and management of accident and incident investigations to identify root causes in order that lessons can be learned and actions taken to reduce future risk.

2. Manage governance processes for the review and acceptance of recommendations arising from (all levels) external and internal investigations.

3. Provide leadership on all accident and investigation matters across the route and develop and manage the competency and development of the accident & investigation team.

4. Provide support and guidance to Designated Competent Persons and investigators; develop local accident investigation capability through acting as a mentor and coach to individuals charged with implementing recommendations.

5. Lead the management of mechanisms to measure, report and track progress with accident and incident investigations and resultant recommendations.

6. Provide advice on the application of the accident and incident investigation processes, drawing on best practice and support as necessary to promote improvements in the quality of investigation processes and outputs.

7. Represent the Route on accident and incident issues with external stakeholders, including suppliers and safety regulators.

8. Advance the Fair Culture process in the Route by applying principles of fairness to investigations.

In order to be successful in this role, we would like you to have/to be:

• Detailed knowledge of investigation techniques and able to demonstrate their proper application

• Previous successful experience in applying accident / investigation techniques and processes

• Good knowledge of railway operations, engineering, safety and environmental management

• Good knowledge of health and safety legislation

• Able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, written and verbal

• Able to demonstrate being a logical thinker, with good analytical skills and computer operating skills

We would also like but it isn't crucial to have/to be:

• Level 6 NEBOSH or Degree or equivalent

• Good influencing skills]]>
