The Role

An opportunity has arisen for an Emergency Response and Business Continuity Manager within the Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) function at Hutchison Ports - Port of Felixstowe.

The role leads the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) and holds responsibility for Business Continuity, Emergency Planning and Fire Safety across the organisation, ensuring emergency preparedness, resilience planning and continuity arrangements are effective, compliant and fit for purpose. This includes oversight of the Business Continuity Management System (BCMS), business impact analyses, continuity planning, and emergency and fire safety arrangements.

Working with the Head of SHE, operational teams and external partners, the post holder will oversee emergency response capability, budget management, maintain operational readiness of the ERU, and coordinate emergency planning, resilience testing and assurance activity.

The role also plays a key part in learning from incidents and exercises, embedding lessons learned, and driving continuous improvement across emergency planning and business continuity to support the safe and resilient operation of the port.

Role Overview

Key responsibilities include:
• Provide operational leadership of the Emergency Response Unit (ERU), ensuring effective supervision, competence, training, and operational readiness across all watches.
• Lead and embed the organisation's Business Continuity Management System (BCMS), including Business Impact Analyses, continuity planning, and ISO 22301-aligned assurance.
• Develop, maintain, and test emergency, fire safety, and business continuity plans, ensuring legal, regulatory, and best-practice compliance.
• Coordinate and lead multi-department and multi-agency emergency and resilience exercises, acting as the central liaison with external response partners and regulators.
• Oversee incident response, post-incident reviews, performance reporting, and continuous improvement of organisational resilience and recovery capability.

What you need:
Proven experience in emergency response and business continuity leadership - operating at Incident Commander level or equivalent in complex operational environments.
Strong knowledge of business continuity and resilience frameworks - including BIAs, BC planning, and regulatory compliance.
Professional emergency response experience - medical, fire, rescue, or equivalent, with medical technician training (minimum).
Recognised health & safety and fire qualifications - NEBOSH General and Fire Certificates (or willingness to achieve within 12 months).
Exceptional leadership and decision-making capability - calm, authoritative, and effective under pressure.
Excellent communication and influencing skills - confident engaging with senior leaders, operational teams, and external agencies.
High levels of organisation, analytical thinking, and attention to detail - able to manage competing priorities and complex information.
Full UK Driving Licence.

Shifts & Pay
• Basic salary: £64,687
• Hours: 37.5hrs per week - Monday to Friday
