Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our dynamic team in Guildford. As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will play a crucial role in delivering detailed design engineering solutions for slope stability, earthworks, and retaining structures, with a particular focus on the rail environment. Your expertise in piling, foundation and retaining wall design, temporary works, soil nails, ground anchors, and site investigations will be essential in ensuring the successful completion of our projects.


The attributes required to successfully fulfill this role are:

  • Delivering detailed design engineering solutions, drawings, and specifications for slope stability, earthworks, and retaining structures, primarily within the rail environment.
  • Utilising your expertise in piling, piled walls, foundation and retaining wall design, temporary works, soil nails, ground anchors, and the planning, implementation, and interpretation of site investigations.
  • Preparation of technical documentation, contract documents, and fee estimates.
  • Collaborating effectively with other engineering disciplines to ensure the integrity of the overall design.
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with clients, understanding their sector and needs to foster enduring partnerships.
  • Managing a challenging workload, prioritising tasks, and meeting project deadlines.
  • Demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills and a team-oriented approach.
  • Proactively developing yourself and team members through Continuous Professional Development initiatives.
  • Utilising strong numerical analysis skills, including Finite Element analysis and construction sequencing of underground structures.

Requirements

Ideal candidates must have the following credentials:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Around 6 – 12 years’ relevant UK project geotechnical design engineering experience.
  • A Chartered Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers or appropriate professional body.
  • Extensive experience in delivering detailed design engineering solutions for slope stability, earthworks, and retaining structures, particularly within the rail environment.
  • Proven expertise in piling, piled walls, foundation and retaining wall design, temporary works, soil nails, ground anchors, and site investigations.
  • Strong proficiency in preparing technical documentation, contract documents, and fee estimates.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively interact with clients and stakeholders.
