We are looking for Band 6 Senior Staff Nurses to join our Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU).

Band 6 salary: £38,768 - £46,124 per annum inclusive

Main duties of the job

  • To provide clinical leadership to a designated nursing team and ensure the provision of high quality nursing care to children and families.
  • To act as a role model and expert clinical practitioner.
  • To assist in the safe, effective and efficient management of the department within allocated resources.
  • To promote a progressive attitude to the continual improvement of patient care through research and evidence based practice.
  • To undertake delegated responsibility for the department in the absence of the Ward Manager.
  • To be familiar with and adopt the principles of the NHS Chief Nursing Officers vision for CompassionIn Practice (NHS Commissioning Board Dec 2012).

  • NMC Child Registered Nurse or NMC Adult registered nurse with relevant specialty Experience
  • University accredited Intensive Care course or equivalent (e.g. Master's in Critical Care)
  • Evidence of on-going professional development linked to demonstrable competencies

Desirable

  • Assessing & mentoring qualification

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Understanding of the importance of research and evidence based practice
  • Demonstrable experience as a registered nurse in an ITU setting
  • Understanding of professional and current issues in children's nursing
  • Awareness of cultural needs, equality and diversity
  • Understanding of safeguarding issues according to Trust policies and procedures
  • Understanding or evidence of fulfilling CPD requirements for revalidation

Desirable

  • Experience of supervising and assessing student nurses
  • Ward management experience
  • Knowledge of clinical incidents and complaints
  • Experience of having worked with acute/chronically ill children and young people
  • Understanding of nursing practice and innovation outside of GOSH
