This is a permanent leadership opportunity at the heart of one of Wales' most ambitious cities. As the manager of an area-based team-including the vibrant Newport City Centre-you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the city's future. The postholder will:
• Lead with impact by overseeing the full spectrum of development management functions, from authorising planning and enforcement decisions to guiding policy interpretation and defending decisions at appeal.
• Inspire and support a dedicated team of professionals through effective supervision, mentoring, and leadership-while also presenting key reports to the delegated panel and Planning Committee.
• Drive transformation by influencing major development proposals that contribute to Newport's regeneration, enhancing both the city's landscape and the reputation of the Development Management service.
We're looking for a driven and motivated individual with the following:
• A recognised qualification in Town Planning. Membership with the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) is highly desirable.
• Experience in handling a broad range of development management issues is essential, along with the ability to manage high workloads and perform effectively under pressure.
• A valid driving licence and the ability to access and visit sites is desirable for this role.
Why choose Newport City Council?
As well as the opportunity to occupy an exciting role within our organisation, the Council offers employees:
• A generous pension contribution scheme.
• Vast opportunities for growth, progression, and development.
• Opportunities to join a range of Staff Networks consisting of working groups that support the Council's open and diverse culture.
