Position Description

QIAGEN Manchester is a world leading center for molecular diagnostic applications, expanding and enhancing the delivery of life-improving diagnostic systems for existing and emerging medical needs, focusing on companion diagnostics (CDx) and personalized healthcare in oncology. At our custom built, state-of-the-art facility close to Manchester city centre we are located next to major hospital and university sites, reinforcing our connections with the healthcare sector and our commitment to scientific innovation. We currently have a fantastic opportunity for a Technical Training and Compliance Manager to join our leadership team within the Molecular Assay Development department supporting the development of molecular diagnostic applications utilizing RNA and DNA technologies. The successful candidate will support a large department of Assay Development Scientists to meet their project deliverables, whilst meeting all appropriate quality and regulatory standards. The department has ~200 employees working across ~35 projects and therefore requires a high level of organisation to operate efficiently and effectively.

The successful candidate will implement innovative approaches to professional learning to ensure our department learning objectives are met. The successful candidate will identify, lead and define our technical learning objectives. Working cross-project and platform, as well as cross-functionally to drive process improvement with the aim of ensuring effective training within the department to maintain best-in-class development at QIAGEN Manchester.

The ideal candidate will line manage of a team consisting of up to 15 lab-based staff members. Proven experience in line management is essential for this role, as the individual will be responsible for offering pastoral support, maintaining team performance, and aiding in the professional growth of team members, in collaboration with matrix line managers. This position requires operating in a dynamic, fast-paced setting where resilience is crucial.

Key responsibilities:

- Identify and define technical learning objectives for the department, ensuring a deep understanding, whilst maintaining effectiveness and compliance of training.

- Translate learning objectives into modular and blended learning, accessible to a multi-generational workforce, ensuring up-skilling and compliance. Supervise and coordinate the creation of training material with technical subject matter experts.

- Act as a technical trainer while championing a 'train the trainer' approach. Point of contact within the leadership team to provide guidance on training.

- Provide excellent pastoral care to employees whilst maintaining high standards of performance management.

- Inspire and motivate people with excellent leadership and communication skills to ensure you drive the enhancement of key processes and procedures to deliver efficiencies.

- Support your employees and wider team in continuous employee development to ensure we have high performing individuals and teams.

- Maintain a good understanding of health and safety in an R&D environment and a willingness to promote a safety-first culture

Position Requirements

- Bachelor's degree or higher in the area of Molecular Biology or Biological Sciences with a strong molecular biology component, or equivalent experience.

- Laboratory workflow knowledge, preferably in a molecular biology setting e.g. PCR, qPCR, dPCR and/or NGS technologies

- Strong interpersonal skills with proven direct line management experience of a small team (5-15 people).

- Strategic thinker with a passion for innovation and problem solving and ability to be a strong decision maker.

- Strong understanding of product development processes, including stage gate methodologies would be highly desirable.

- Stakeholder management experience and having worked in a regulated environment would be desirable.
