Detailed job description and main responsibilities
• To provide management and leadership to a designated team of Health Advisers within St Stephen's Centre (JHC and Kobler Clinic).
• Review monitor and support the HA team to ensure that the team are able to provide a gold standard of care for patients attending for PrEP and PEP as well as for those patients attending the clinic with complex needs e.g. safeguarding concerns, domestic abuse, sexual assault, sex workers, substance use and sexual well-being and dysfunction.
• To be competent in the management of under 18 year olds and vulnerable adults with additional needs.
• To provide leadership within the SSC MDT around safeguarding and work alongside the B7 Nurse leading on Safeguarding in JHC & Kobler including attendance at all relevant safeguarding meetings.
• To work with the designated clinician in Kobler Clinic in managing HIV Lost to Follow up (LTFU).
• To oversee and support the Emergency Department Blood Borne Virus Testing Pathway to Care including line management of the BBV results HA.
• The post holder will be a clearly identifiable senior clinical staff member, and team leader within JHC & Kobler for the HAs.

To have demonstrable clinical experience, be able to provide sound clinical expertise to the team and coordinate and deliver high quality care to complex clients

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Educated to RGN (1st level) and /or or a (relevant to the role) degree-for example Psychology,Counselling,Health promotion,Substance misuse,RMN or Social work

Desirable criteria

  • Accredited Counselling qualification
  • STIF course (s)
  • Evidence of further study/qualifications in the field of Sexual Health,HIV ,Risk reduction,MI ,behaviour change or Public Health
  • Recognised psychosexual qualification
  • Relevant qualification to undertake or participate in clinical research

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrable comprehensive experience of working as a Sexual Health Adviser in a GUM clinic or other relevant sexual health/HIV specific setting, including taking sexual histories and autonomously managing PEP and PrEP.
  • Able to manage routine and complex safeguarding concerns around vulnerable adults and children including independently making safeguarding referrals and supporting the team in making these decisions
  • Able to competently manage patients attending the clinic with complex needs e.g. safeguarding concerns,domestic abuse ,sexual assault, sex workers ,substance misuse and sexual dysfunction.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of using models of Risk reduction/Behaviour change with clients
  • Experience in managing a team including: sickness, performance and development
  • Previous experience of undertaking Clinical Audit/Research

Skills and knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent IT skills including Outlook, Word Excel and using a database
  • Demonstrable comprehensive clinical knowledge of the management of STI's and HIV within a GUM setting including all relevant national guidelines.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of current developments and innovative practice within sexual health and HIV including research.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of models of Risk reduction/Behaviour change with clients

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of appropriate clinical pathways for patients requiring contraceptive care and advice
  • Knowledge around how key populations are disproportionately affected by HIV/STI and how interventions targeting specific communities/groups should be developed to ensure that they do not exacerbate feelings of isolation, discrimination or stigma
