About Us
The School of Immunology & Microbial Sciences is one of six Schools that form the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine at King's College London. We undertake research, education and training in the areas of immunobiology, inflammation and infectious diseases with the collective goal of improving human health and wellbeing.
Based across King's Guy's, St Thomas' and Denmark Hill campuses, our academic programme of teaching, research and clinical practice is embedded across four departments: Peter Gorer Department of Immunobiology, Department of Infectious Diseases, Department of Inflammation Biology and the Roger Williams Institute of Liver Studies.
About the role
This role is essential for supporting all research activities within the school assisting academics through the entire lifecycle of their awards from application through to completion.
In addition to leading the research administration for the School, the postholder be part of the Core service support and will manage a team of Professional Services staff and develop an excellent network of liaison with internal and external stakeholders.
The postholder will report directly to the School Manager delivering support for the core activities, projects and participating in School, cross-Faculty and University initiatives.
This role requires strong organisational and leadership skills, the ability to work collaboratively across various teams along with the capacity to contribute to the strategic development of the School's aims and planning.
This is a full time (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term maternity contract for 12 months or until the subsequent post holder returns.
About You
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- Higher degree or equivalent in a relevant subject, or extensive related experience
- Experience working in HEI research administration and strong understanding of the UK HEI research environment
- Experience in managing research grants and contracts at pre- and post award stage
- Excellent numeracy skills and an ability to understand and analyse complex data
- Strong communication skills - both written and spoken English, able to present and communicate ideas to a range of stakeholders, including senior members of academic staff
- Knowledge and expertise in using Office 365 tools, research and finance management software packages
- Strong inter-personal skills, influencing others, working collaboratively across complex institutions to achieve a shared objective
- Ability to work proactively and independently and manage/prioritise a diverse workload
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of biomedical sciences research, along with relevant funders, their priorities and schemes
- Experience of managing and developing staff
- Understanding of open research principles and practices
