About Us

The School of Life Course & Population Sciences (SLCPS), is one of six schools that make up the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine (FoLSM) at King College London. The School links the causes of common health problems to life's landmark stages, treating life, disease and healthcare as a continuum.

Based across King's Denmark Hill, Guy's, St Thomas' and Waterloo campuses, our academic programme of teaching, research and clinical practice is embedded across five Departments: Women & Children's Health, Population Health Sciences, Nutritional Sciences, Twin Research & Genetic Epidemiology and Ophthalmology.

About the role

The Research Operations Manager role is essential for supporting all research activities within the Life Course & Population Sciences. This role involves assisting academic staff in managing research throughout the entire lifecycle of their awards, from inception to completion.

In addition to leading on research administration for the School, you will also be managing a team of professional services staff who form part of the core services support. Developing excellent working relationships with central support services teams and build a trusted network of liaisons. You will support the operational implementation of the school's research strategy.

You will report directly to the School Manager, delivering support to core actives, projects and participating in cross-Faculty and university projects and initiatives.

This role requires strong organisational and leadership skills, the ability to work collaboratively across various teams, and the capacity to contribute to the strategic development of the school's research agenda.

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract. This is a hybrid role with an expectation to spend 2 to 3 days a week on campus.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

1. Higher degree or equivalent in a relevant subject
2. Experience working in HEI research administration and strong understanding of the UK HEI research environment
3. Experience in managing research grants and contracts at pre- and post-award stage
4. Excellent numeracy skills and an ability to understand and analyse complex data
5. Strong communication skills - both written and verbally, able to present and communicate ideas to a range of stakeholders, including senior members of academic staff
6. Knowledge and expertise in using Office 365 tools, research and finance management software packages
7. Strong interpersonal skills, influencing others, working collaboratively across complex institutions to achieve a shared objective
8. Ability to work proactively and independently and manage/prioritise a diverse workload

Desirable criteria

1. Knowledge of biomedical sciences research, along with relevant funders, their priorities and schemes
2. Experience of managing and developing staff
3. Understanding of open research principles and practices
