A research publisher with one of the most successful track records for growth over the last ten years is seeking a Manager or Senior Manager to join their growing Research Integrity team. This pivotal, global role will support the Associate Director to implement the Research Integrity strategy across a large portfolio of hybrid and open access journals whilst managing a team in the resolution of publication ethics cases. The ideal candidate will have an excellent understanding of research, pre-publication and post-publication ethics and familiarity with industry best practice in these areas.

Manager/Senior Manager: Key responsibilities

  • Implement and embed policies, processes, internal and external resources around research, pre-publication and post-publication ethics
  • Play a leading role in achieving the goal to maintain reputation as a high-quality ethical publisher
  • Take the Research Integrity strategic objectives concerning publication ethics and translate these into practical plans to improve ethical policies in line with industry best practice
  • Identify ways to reduce the risk of ethical problems arising in the first place or enable more efficient resolution of problems
  • Develop workflows or processes to enable more efficient resolution of publication ethics cases, collaborating with Editorial, Peer Review and Production teams
  • Develop and maintain resources around research integrity matters to support the Research Integrity Team and Editorial colleagues, including staying up to date on evolving areas of publishing ethics breaches and international research practices
  • Lead on the management of ethics cases arising on journals: review submitted or published articles flagged as having potential ethical problems and create solutions to these problems
  • Supervise the investigation of authors, reviewers or editors where ethical problems are suspected/identified; communicate with external (occasionally adversarial) parties, including research institutions where required
  • Ensure the Research Integrity team is delivering a high level of support and expertise to colleagues such as journal editors. Act as the point of escalation for the most complex and sensitive cases
  • Provide regular reports on case work to senior leaders, in order to create visibility of trends and emerging issues
  • Participate in industry projects and working groups; be an ambassador for research integrity work externally.

Manager/Senior Manager: Skills/experience

  • Have an excellent understanding of research, publication ethics and be familiar with industry best practices in these areas
  • An experienced research integrity professional with expertise in managing a team of RI specialists and overseeing a global, diverse portfolio of journals
  • Able to manage multiple expectations from diverse stakeholders
  • Experienced in navigating complex ethical issues and managing sensitive situations with confidence, discretion and good judgement
  • A strong and collaborative communicator, with strong problem-solving skills.

£62,810 - £70,665 salary, bonus, and benefits package is offered.
