Practice Manager - Non-Clinical

This job is brought to you by Jobs/Redefined, the UK's leading over-50s age inclusive jobs board.

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Practice Manager to join our Highgate Veterinary Clinic in Kendal. This role allows you to demonstrate your leadership abilities while providing support to the team during a period of leadership transition within the practice.

Lead Our Team to Success

As a vital member of the senior leadership team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the seamless day-to-day running of the practice. Your responsibilities will include driving financial performance, fostering team engagement, and ensuring client satisfaction, all while contributing to the overall success of the practice. While working closely with the Clinical Director and support team, you will have significant autonomy in managing the practice. You will lead the front-of-house reception and veterinary care assistant teams, with your leadership pivotal to upholding the clinic's standards and values.

In this role, you will be responsible for preparing monthly payroll, managing holiday cover, processing overtime, and handling company sick pay and SSP payments. You will oversee scheduling, ensure health and safety compliance, and manage the maintenance of facilities and equipment, including organizing repairs and implementing group debt protocols. Additionally, you will be involved in the annual pay review and budgeting process, conduct appraisals and performance reviews for all non-clinical staff, and collaborate with the Operations team to support practice growth and development.

Join a Supportive Team

Our team currently consists of 4 Veterinary Surgeons, 3 nurses, and 6 support staff, alongside our Clinical Director and Head Nurse. We encourage team members who are passionate about all aspects of general practice and those eager to develop their own areas of veterinary interest. As a Nurse Training Practice, Cat Friendly Clinic, and Practice Standards accredited facility, we are committed to continually enhancing patient care and the client experience. Additionally, we support the local greyhound rehoming centre and serve as a host venue for the Pet Blood Bank.

Work in a Professional Environment

Highgate Vets is a small animal first-opinion practice located in Kendal, on the southern edge of the stunning Lake District. We operate across two branches, with our main surgery focusing on emergency cases and comprehensive workups, while our branch emphasises preventative medicine. Our clinical staff rotate between both locations. As a close-knit team, we prioritise supporting one another and fostering a collaborative learning environment where everyone can thrive. We were proud to be named one of the top three finalists in the 2021 Pet Plan Practice of the Year awards. We are planning to merge our two branches into a single main clinic, and as Practice Manager, you will lead this transition. You will collaborate closely with our property team and clinical staff to ensure a seamless move into the new facility.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for an individual with strong leadership and operational management experience. A solid understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and KPI management is essential, along with exceptional communication, time management, and interpersonal skills. While prior experience in the veterinary sector is preferred, it is not mandatory. A full driving license is required, as the role involves travel between branches and attendance at external meetings.

Enjoy a Work-Life Balance

This full-time position is 38 hours per week, spread over 4 days, with flexibility on which days are worked. The hours will fall within the practice's opening times of 8:30am to 6:00pm, with occasional 8:00am starts and some Saturday morning or evening reception coverage required. Time off in lieu will be provided to accommodate these shifts.
