The role

We're now looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Head of People to play a key role in this next chapter. This is a strategic and hands-on position, ideal for someone who thrives in a growing business and enjoys balancing transformation with everyday operational delivery.

You'll shape the future of our people function - leading HR transformation, developing our leadership capability, embedding learning and career growth, and ensuring our policies and practices evolve in line with new legislation and our core values, which are pragmatic, approachable, personable and reliable. Your work will help us build the infrastructure, skills, and environment where our people and our business can thrive together.

Key Responsibilities

Culture & Engagement

  • Champion Roma's people-first culture, ensuring it continues to thrive as the business scales.
  • Lead initiatives that strengthen engagement, belonging, and wellbeing across the organisation.
  • Maintain a strong, values-led employee voice through regular communication and feedback mechanisms.

HR Transformation & Operational Excellence

  • Lead the transformation and optimisation of HR systems, processes, and service delivery to enable a scalable, efficient, and data-driven HR function.
  • Drive continuous improvement in the use of HR technology (including BambooHR) to enhance accuracy, reporting, and employee experience.
  • Streamline core people processes (recruitment, onboarding, payroll, performance, and reward) for consistency and effectiveness.
  • Organisational design

Learning, Development & Career Growth

  • Design and implement a structured Learning & Development framework, including career pathways, leadership development, and succession planning.
  • Partner with managers to embed a coaching culture and ensure every employee has opportunities to grow and develop.
  • Introduce clear capability frameworks that support both personal and organisational growth.

Policy, Compliance & Governance

  • Review, modernise, and maintain all HR policies and the employee handbook - ensuring full compliance with current legislation while reflecting Roma's culture and tone of voice.
  • Ensure fair, transparent, and consistent application of all policies and procedures.
  • Provide expert advice to leaders and managers on employee relations and people risk management.

Employee Relations & Day-to-Day HR Support

  • Act as the key point of contact for employee relations matters - providing hands-on guidance on disciplinary, grievance, performance, and absence management cases.
  • Coach and support managers to handle ER issues confidently and in line with best practice.
  • Manage complex or sensitive HR cases directly when required.
  • Oversee and mentor your direct report, ensuring day-to-day HR administration, documentation, and processes run smoothly.

Strategic People Partnership

  • Partner closely with the Executive Committee to align the people strategy with business priorities and growth plans.
  • Use people data and analytics to inform decisions and measure impact.
  • Support organisational design and workforce planning to ensure Roma has the right structure and skills for future success.

Person Specification

Qualifications:

  • CIPD Level 7.

Experience & Attributes:

  • Proven experience as a senior HR professional (Head of HR, HR Manager, or equivalent) in a growing, people-focused business.
  • Strong track record leading HR transformation, including system/process improvements and building scalable infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience managing employee relations and advising managers on complex cases.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and delivering L&D and career development programmes.
  • Comprehensive understanding of UK employment law and HR best practice.
  • Strategic thinker with a proactive, practical approach - comfortable operating at both strategic and operational levels.
  • Commercially aware, data-driven, and people-oriented.
  • A natural culture champion with strong emotional intelligence, communication and integrity.
  • Experience in Financial / Professional services would be desirable
