We are looking for a Claims Executive /Senior Claims Executive to join our Americas team in London.

A Claims Executive / Senior Claims Executive is an operational position where you will be responsible for providing hands-on assistance and advice to our members and clients. Providing a first-class claims service is central to what we do, and with a primary focus on Hull claims, you will be expected to deal with various matters including salvage, collisions, machinery breakdowns and fires.

You will have a high degree of autonomy and will work closely with our members and clients, together with very competent colleagues both in London and globally.

There is a strong focus at Gard on cross-functional and cross-team collaboration and Claims handlers will support underwriting in marketing Gard's capabilities in the Americas market, and some traveling will be expected. We are looking for a candidate who thrives in a collaborative environment and demonstrates a strong team-oriented mindset. The ideal candidate will actively contribute to team goals, communicate openly, and foster positive working relationships across departments.

Key responsibilities:

  • Handling incoming Hull & Machinery and Loss of Hire claims.
  • Appointing and following up surveyors, lawyers and other third-party service providers.
  • Review and analysis of survey reports and other documentation.
  • Assisting and advising clients on repair options.
  • Extensive client and broker contact.
  • Liaising with claims adjusters on coverage issues.
  • Providing advice to our members and clients within all aspects of Marine claims.
  • Collaboration with our Loss Prevention department and participation in exercises and seminars.

Who are you:

  • Minimum 5-years of experience in handling hull and machinery claims.
  • Ideally, you will have a nautical or marine engineering background with seafaring experience. Time spent ashore in ship management will be an advantage.
  • Significant experience in marine claims can make up for a lack of hands-on shipping experience.
  • You can build and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and clients.
  • You can structure and organize tasks and work independently, yet you can still perform in and contribute to a team-oriented environment, both locally and globally. Some travel will be required in this respect.
  • You are highly motivated to learn as well as share knowledge.
  • You have a practical, solution-oriented mindset.
  • An ability to digest information from various sources and draw conclusions on patterns and level of significance should come naturally .
