Job overview
We are looking for a dedicated and motivated individual to provide excellent management to the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) service within the Specialist Surgery Directorate at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
The post holder will oversee administrative functions and provide day-to-day senior operational management for the delivery of the ENT service and processes in the department.
Candidates will have experience of effective operational management and delivery of high quality services within a busy hospital setting. The successful candidate will be actively involved in shaping the delivery of our services.
Main duties of the job
The business manager will lead a number of functions within ENT and Head and Neck services:
This will include day-to-day management of:
- All departmental KPIs e.g. PDRs, core skills training, local induction
- Local recruitment processes, including bank and agency requests
- Members of the administration team
- The annual business planning process
- The department risk register
- Departmental reporting cycle, including drafting of key reports for executive and board level committees
- Pay and Non-Pay Budget as well as Income plans
The post holder will contribute to the delivery of challenging performance targets through effective communication and liaise with staff across the Trust as well as organising and analysing complex data.

Education/ qualifications
Essential criteria
- First degree, or suitable equivalent management experience, or NHS graduate management training scheme qualification
- Recognised management qualification at postgraduate level and/or experience
- Completion of project management skills course, e.g. PRINCE2
- Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
- Relevant postgraduate qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of operational and staff management in the NHS
- Experience of managing budgets and resource allocation procedures
- Successful delivery of change, improvement and project management
- Ability to work under pressure with conflicting/tight deadlines
- Ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines for both self and others
Skills/knowledge/ abilities
Essential criteria
- Excellent command of English; report/letter/business plan /project plan writing skills
- Ability to understand and summarise complex information, carry out literature searches
- Ability to analyse performance data to identify areas for improvement
- Ability to analyse, problem solve and develop practical and workable solutions to address them
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of marketing techniques
