The role
The University of Surrey Campus Services Catering owns and manages its own inhouse campus catering outlets and conference services.
The catering facilities include several restaurants, coffee shops, and bar services, serving a range of menu choices and beverage offerings, including all internal and external event catering. We currently have an Assistant Manager vacancy at our Wates House Bar.
Wates House is one of our busiest catering outlets: it is open for 12-14 hours a day, Monday to Sunday. It offers a range of quality drinks, foods and events, throughout the year. The post is vital in ensuring we deliver high standards of service, driven by an individual who is creative, works on their own initiative, and is capable of managing a large group of people.
About you
As part of the Wates House Team and under the guidance of the Trade Licenses Manager, this role has responsibility for the operational day-to-day management of the Wates House Student Bar, including short term operational priorities and proposing / implementing improvements to current working methods to achieve objectives. The successful candidate will be responsible for operational compliance with food safety and health and safety procedures, management of staff rotas, and placing orders for the bar.
This position will be responsible for staff training, ensuring efficient, engaging, and friendly customer service, and motivating a team of individuals to deliver excellent service. This is a busy, fast paced environment. This position will manage a robust, creative, and successful catering operation on a 7 day a week schedule.
